After having dinner at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday evening, the highlight of his visit to France which began with a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe and a mini-crowd, Charles III begins his second day of state visit this Thursday. If as head of state of a constitutional monarchy, the British sovereign must observe strict reserve, politics will be very present this Thursday.

Charles III and Emmanuel Macron carried a message of Franco-British “friendship” focused on “the future” during a sumptuous dinner at the Palace of Versailles, the highlight of the king’s visit to France which began on Wednesday with a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe and a mini crowd bath. This three-day visit to France, the first since the monarch’s coronation, “is a sign of friendship and trust”, seen “as a tribute to our past, and as a guarantee of the future”, affirmed the French president in opening of the meal.

Expected at the Senate and Notre-Dame de Paris

For this second day of state visit, the King Charles III is expected at the Senate at the end of the morning. He will be welcomed by its president, Gérard Larcher, and by the president of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet. Charles III will deliver a speech to parliamentarians around 11 a.m. in which he is expected to speak partly in French.

The monarch is then expected at Notre-Dame de Paris. Accompanied by Emmanuel Macron, he will visit the restoration site of the cathedral partially destroyed by a fire in 2019. The two leaders will then go to the National Museum of Natural History to talk about climate and biodiversity with entrepreneurs and creators specializing in development sustainable.

A final interview at the Élysée

At the same time, the British monarch will travel to Saint-Denis, the nerve center of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. There he will meet associations and sports personalities. Finally, King Charles III and Emmanuel Macron will meet at the Élysée for a final interview.
