THW Kiel won the Handball Bundesliga on Sunday with 30:27 (13:14) at TSV GWD Minden. The SG Flensburg-Handewitt confidently defeated the TuS N-Lübbecke with 30:19 (14:9), the TSV Hannover-Burgdorf managed a surprise with a 32:32 (15:13) in Berlin. The “Recken” also helped Kiel and Flensburg in the fight for a place in the Champions League with the foxes’ draw.

Without their injured Norwegian backcourt player Sander Sagosen, there was little for the Kiel team in the third-to-bottom Minden game. This was reflected in the interim result after 22 minutes: 8:12 from the point of view of the German record champions. Coach Filip Jicha’s team had to improve, and they did. With a 4:0 run, Kiel equalized to 12:12. However, it was 13:14 at the break.

Even after the restart, it remained a difficult task for Schleswig-Holstein, who were behind by 16:19 after 38 minutes. Again the North Germans were challenged and they delivered again. This time, a 5-0 run resulted in a 21-19 lead. When the hosts missed the goal two and a half minutes before the siren sounded at 28:26, the decision was made.
“We didn’t manage to pose problems for Minden at the beginning. Then we switched, but then also had the problem in attack that we didn’t have the last bite. That’s why we didn’t get in as we had imagined had,” said THW backcourt player Steffen Weinhold.
SG Flensburg-Handewitt without any trouble
With the sense of achievement in the Champions League against Szeged in the back, the Flensburg soon came to a reassuring lead in their home game against the bottom of the table TuS N-Lübbecke. Driven by their Swedish playmaker Jim Gottfridsson, the SG pulled away from 6:3 (14th) to 11:5 (22nd). At the break the lead of 14:9 was still comfortable.

And even after the change of sides, success was no longer in danger. Flensburg ultimately won effortlessly. The most successful Flensburg player was Hampus Wanne with twelve goals.
“In the Champions League we have achieved our goal after a mixed group phase. In the league the glass is half empty because we no longer have it in our own hands. We will still do everything we can to get as high as possible in to land in the table,” said SG circle runner Johannes Golla.

TSV Hannover-Burgdorf surprised in Berlin
The “warriors” had to do without their head coach Christian Prokop (corona infection) in Berlin. Assistant coach Heidmar Felixson took over, supported on the sidelines by sporting director Sven-Sören Christophersen. And it started right away. After five minutes, Ilija Brozovic made it 5:2. And the Lower Saxony kept the level. They led 15:13 at the break.
The Lower Saxony also showed a strong performance in the second half, kept the game open until the end – and deservedly scored a point. Two seconds before the end, the goal was scored at 32:32.
“We played with a lot of heart and passion and we always believed in ourselves. That’s why we got a point. It was a lot of fun coaching today, but I would still have liked to have had Christian there,” said Felixson.
Goals Berlin: Lindberg (11/8), Vujovic (4), Drux (3), Marsenic (3), Wiede (3), Holm (3), Andersson (3), Morros de Argila, Matthes
Gates Hanover-Burgdorf: Hansen (9/4), Kuzmanovski (7), Brozovic (6), Cehte (4), Pevnov (2), Mävers (2), Feise (2)

HSV coach Jansen: “A disgrace”
HSV Hamburg lost to HBW Balingen-Weilstetten 29:34 (13:19). Three days after the furious win at the Rhein-Neckar Löwen, nothing went right for HSVH in the home game against Balingen-Weilstetten. A lot of lack of concentration led to ball losses, which were consistently punished by the guests. After a quarter of an hour it was 4:12. Balingen scored at will. Shortly thereafter, Jonas Maier came on for Johannes Bitter. Nevertheless, a little later there was a ten goal difference (6:16, 18th) and six at the break (13:19).
Hamburg struggled in the second half to turn the game around. But it didn’t work. HSV coach Torsten Jansen was furious at his team’s performance: “That was outrageous to everyone here. It’s really a strong thing to pull off a performance like that today after Thursday’s performance.”
Tore HSV Hamburg: Wullenweber 5, Mortensen 4, Theilinger 4, Axmann 3, Bauer 3, Forstbauer 3, Walullin 3, FB Andersen 2, M. Späth 2
Goals Balingen-Weilstetten: Lipovina 9/3, Strosack 7, Heinzelmann 6, Schoch 5, Nothdurft 4, Zintel 2, Ingason 1
