“Kills” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in cartoon

Democrats want to punish Republican Paul Gosar. He posted a video in which he “kills” a political opponent and threatens the president.

Twitter has labeled the film clip as containing hatred and breaking the company’s rules. But they have not removed it.

“Are there any anime fans out there?” asks Paul Gosar on Twitter.

Anime are Japanese cartoons. Gosar is a Republican congressman from Arizona.

He posted a minute and a half long video. Parts of it are manipulated so that his face is on one of the superheroes. In one of the scenes, he kills the radical Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

In another scene, he attacks President Joe Biden with two swords.

Everything happens quickly, and the manipulation of the images looks amateurish.

But the reactions are strong.

Will investigate

Twitter quickly hid the video. The company issued a warning that it has a hate message. But they did not remove it. Users can click once more to view it.

The Democrats’ leader of the House of Representatives will investigate Gosar. Nancy Pelosi also calls on Republican minority leader Kevin McCarthy to condemn Gosar.

So far, McCarthy has not wanted to answer, writes The Washington Post.

“Threats of violence against members of Congress and the President of the United States cannot be tolerated,” Pelosi said.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said:

– This should not happen, and we must condemn it.

Pelosi requests that the congressional ethics committee investigate the video. She also wants the police to look at it.

“Nasty colleague”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez himself signed on Twitter that “a nasty representative I work with, who raises money for neo-Nazis, shared a fantasy film in which he kills me.”

She has no faith that Pelosi will get anywhere. She wrote that Gosar would hardly be punished, as the Republican leadership “cheers on him and apologizes to him.”

Paul Gosar is blown away by the criticism.

Blowing off the critics

Gosar himself does not take the criticism so seriously. He posted a drawing on Twitter, where the message is: “Relax, it’s a cartoon”.

According to Reuters he says:

– I will always fight for the rule of law, defend our borders and defend the America First program.

Gosar is one of former President Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters. He described the mob that attacked Congress on January 6 this year as “peaceful patriots”.
