Killed surfers near Scheveningen commemorated by family and friends

The surfers ran into problems at Scheveningen on 11 May. Two residents of The Hague, aged 38 and 30, died after being pulled over. A day later, the bodies of a 24-year-old man from The Hague and a 22-year-old man from Delft were recovered. The body of a 23-year-old man, also from Delft, was found at the beginning of June. A sixth surfer from the group survived the drama.

Trained surfers

The victims were all experienced surfers. It probably went wrong due to strong winds and an opposite current. The large amount of foam on the waves may also have played a role.

The people who entered the water today for the tribute had brought flowers. According to one of them, the meeting was a great way to remember the men. “I think they loved nothing more than surfing and being in the water.”
