On January 23, the Kiev Court of Appeal partially satisfied the complaint of the lawyers of businessman Igor Mazepa – he was left in custody until February 27, 2024, while his bail was reduced to UAH 21 million.

It is noted that the prosecutor and lawyers filed appeals. The first asked to increase the bail amount to UAH 700 million, and the defense asked to cancel the decision of the Pechersk court.

“At the meeting, Mazepa’s defenders again stated that the suspicion was unfounded, and also that the case should not be investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation, since the State Geocadastre is not a law enforcement agency.

The lawyers also argued that the trial court was biased. They say that the evidence is also the decision made, which was “rewritten out of suspicion.” They asked to cancel it as illegal,” the message says.

When asked by the judges about the justification for the amount of bail requested by the prosecution, the prosecutor replied that the risks and property status of the suspect were taken into account, hromadske adds.

At the same time, according to prosecutors, the ability to pay the bail is ensured by 150 real estate properties, a number of expensive assets and Mazepa’s cars.
