Few would call the Kia Niro crossover a sports car, but its controllability in a simulated crisis situation is top notch. He showed the Spanish magazine km77, which, among other things, deals with the so-called moose tests. The new hybrid version niro managed it at the speed of 81 km/h which is a very good result.
The so-called moose test simulates a situation in which an obstacle unexpectedly appears on the road in front of you – perhaps an animal such as a moose or, in our conditions, a doe – and you need to avoid it, but there is a car driving in the opposite direction, so you must immediately return to your lane. The speed at which the car manages not to hit even one of the cones is evaluated: the higher the better.

The entry speed of 81 km/h is an excellent result, one of the best recorded by the magazine. Tesla Model Y or Ford Focus are just as excellent, on the other hand, the Škoda Enyaq didn’t even exceed 70 km/h. Furthermore, the niro performed significantly better than the Audi RS 3 Sportback: it passed the test with an entry speed of 75 km/h, which is still a good result.
The tested version of the nira was the so-called full hybrid, which was the best-selling version of the previous generation in the Czech Republic. The car can also be purchased with plug-in hybrid and purely electric drive. It’s hard to estimate how these versions would fare: They have a lower center of gravity and more even balance, but are heavier overall.
