The winner of the trophy will be announced next week at a virtual ceremony. Usual suspects Messi and Ronaldo are not the top favorite this year, but Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski is.
Last year Messi won before Virgil van Dijk and Ronaldo. Eden Hazard then finished 8th. In 2018, when Luka Modric won, Hazard was 7th and De Bruyne 8th.
Thibaut Courtois was initially among the nominees for Best Goalkeeper of the Year, but he also failed to make it to the last three. The choice in that category is between Alisson Becker, Manuel Neuer and Jan Oblak.
The winner is chosen by a jury consisting of all national coaches, the captains of the national teams, a handful of football journalists and the fans.
