Many shrubs show their berry side in autumn and sometimes shine with colorful fruit decorations. But what is visually and ecologically attractive can be dangerous for small children. Because among them there are also poisonous fruits, warns the Rhineland-Palatinate Garden Academy.
In order not to have to completely part with poisonous trees, a temporary solution can be to cut the branches with the poisonous berries for the vase or to make decorative wreaths, suggest the gardening experts. So the parents could still look forward to it and decorate it inaccessible to the children. When the children are big enough to know which berries they are not allowed to pick, they can stay on the bush and keep growing.
But which trees have poisonous fruits? The garden academy includes: large-fruited euonymus (Euonymus planipes), holly (Ilex aquifolium), yew (Taxus baccat), love pearl bush (Callicarpa bodinierii), firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea varieties), snowberries (Symphoricarpus orbustericulatus) and Ligamentus vulgare.)
