Kazimierz Mazur and Katarzyna Gärtner met in the mid-1970s, but clearly it wasn’t their time yet. The novice actor, who was just finishing school, immediately noticed the composer, who was six years older than him. This, however, did not return the interest. When a quarter of a century later fate brought them together again, they decided they would not fight their fate.

Kazimierz Mazur and Katarzyna Gärtner – the hard way to love
Although Katarzyna Gärtner may be proud of her rich artistic achievements (she composed masses, speakers, wrote music for musicals), she is most associated with hundreds of hits she created for famous theater artists. Only for myself Maryla Rodowicz he arranged 50 songs, led by “Małgośka”. She partnered with Agnieszka Osiecka and Ernest Bryll, composing music for their lyrics.
Life did not spare the artist. At the age of 32, he developed leukemia. At that time he was in Switzerland, where he worked at Radio Suisse Romande. She decided to consult one of the local specialists, who suggested, to support the therapy, to move to the countryside and take care of the goat farm. And she found the right place. She chose the village of Komaszyce in today’s Świętokrzyskie province, where she renovated and adapted two ruined mills, one for a residence and the other for a recording studio.
A Swiss doctor ordered the patient to drink three liters of goat’s milk a day and to live as close to nature as possible. Products from the shop – excluded. The doctor allowed her to buy natural cheeses, herbs and vegetables only from local suppliers. For this juice of nettle, horsetail and thistle. She conscientiously followed Gärtner’s strict instructions, even though she had moments of doubt. After a year, she was happy with her newfound health.
At that time, Mazur made his debut as an actor on the big and small screen. After two not so important roles, he was given a revolutionary engagement in movie “Nights and days”. The creation of Tomaszek Niechcic made him recognizable, but later he did not repeat this success, mainly playing secondary characters. On the other hand, he often and successfully performed on stage, was associated, among others, with him with Ateneum theaters, comedy or the Masovian Land Theater.
The younger generation of viewers associate it mainly with production “The colors of happiness“, where he played the role of Tomasz for eight years Winiewski. The actor married Beata Bogdańska, with whom he had a son. Kazimierz Mazur junior, 38, not only took his name from his father, but also followed the professional path he had traced.
They felt great pain together
The Masurian marriage did not survive the test of time, nor did the marriage of Katarzyna Gärtner. On the threshold of the new millennium, Kazimierz and Katarzyna, as mature people and lived by the mistakes of the past, decided that they would continue their life together. The actor moved to the country estate of his beloved, and after a year they legalized the relationship. They found that they could work together on a professional basis. He created songs and he added music videos to them. In step with the times, they presented their creativity online. Katarzyna noted, however, that they weren’t doing it for the money – they even had to invest a little bit. Common forcibly founded the Ballustrada Musical Theater. It had to be a place where each of them could realize their own artistic visions.

In the winter of 2012, a large part of the spouses’ property was consumed by a fire. The fire appeared in their house at night and, as it turned out, the fault was with the problems with the installation of the chimney. The couple managed to escape, but lost their possessions, including instruments, musical equipment and other studio equipment. Their wedding rings were also consumed by the flames. The total loss was estimated at over three million zlotys. This event was also linked to Katarzyna’s health problems, who suffered her first stroke shortly after the fire. Subsequently, this health problem recurred four more times.
Fortunately, the newlyweds were able to count on well-known friends and strangers who helped them, incl. organize charity collections and concerts for their benefit.
But nothing could ever shake their love. They jokingly called each other the “horse mouse” relationship, referring to the signs assigned to them since their birth in the Chinese horoscope.
There is no husband, not me (…) I cannot function without him – admitted the composer in an interview with “Dzień dobry TVN” in 2021.

The actor died on September 6, 2022 after a long illness. He was 73 years old.
