After a test phase, Kaufland is introducing the so-called tray solution for fresh goods counters. A similar concept has been around for some time in all branches of the Basic organic chain and since summer last year at the Real supermarket chain. Only in a few selected Rewe and Edeka branches can you fill your own containers.-
The tray solution works according to the following principle: customers bring their own containers with them and place them open on the so-called fresh food tray and hand them over the counter. The tray is then weighed and the container is filled with the desired goods. Only the net weight of the goods is calculated; the weight of the container and tray was previously subtracted. This process “means that all hygiene regulations are fully met,” says Patrick Höhn, Managing Director of Freshness at Kaufland.
