‘Katilus’ in solidarity to build a reservoir in India | Radio Bilbao | Hour 14 Bizkaia

Manuel Orozko, a neighbor of Basauri, 49, intends to raise 9,168 euros to build a reservoir in the Anantapur region of India, through the sale of 900 solidarity “katilus” (bowls).

13.50 euros will be fully allocated to cover the construction of this 41,747 square meter reservoir

This is the eleventh solidarity project launched by this Biscayan, which since 2006 has collected 170,000 euros with different initiatives promoted together with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.

In collaboration with this NGO again, Orozko has proposed adding 9,168 euros with the sale of these “katilus” decorated with the figure of two Indian women, which he offers from today in the bar he runs on Lehendakari Agirre street in Basauri, at a price of 20 euros.

Of this amount, 13.50 euros will be allocated in full to cover the construction of this reservoir 41,747 square meters, for the collection of rainwater, which will make it possible to supply 20 surface wells and irrigate 84.37 hectares in the village of Yerragunta, Orozco explained to Efe.

The remaining 6.50 euros will cover the purchase of the “katilu”, a container linked to Basque tradition, and which has been manufactured both to be heated over a flame and on an induction hob.

Orozko has pointed out that the construction of the reservoir will contribute directly to improving the economic activity of twenty families of peasants from Southeast India, thus avoiding the tendency to migrate to cities, where the chances of seeing the quality of life of this population improved are slim.

In addition, it will facilitate the increase of arable land, by improving the ecological balance in the area and attracting different types of birds and fish, as highlighted.

The project is, of the eleven promoted by Manuel Orozko, the first to launch in Basauri, after until now this type of initiative had been developed in Bilbao.

After a six-year hiatus without organizing any campaign in favor of the disadvantaged population of India, this Biscayan resumes his solidarity activity, convinced that “together, we can do divine things”.
