LONDON, KOMPAS.com – The majority of residents English attributed something negative to hearing names Karen.
This was reported by the results of the PlayOJO survey as quoted from Sky News, Friday (21/8/2020).
From the survey results, 62 percent of respondents in the UK associated the name Karen with behavior that is annoying, asking for preferential treatment, and being demanding.
Karen is commonly used in England to describe a certain type of middle-class woman whose behavior she wants to be distinctive.

In the past, the name Karen was used to refer to the type of person who demands to be able to “talk to a manager”.
The name is also used to refer to someone being anti-vaccinated or committing acts of racism.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the name Karen has evolved and is used as meme to describe people who disagree with self-quarantine.
The name is also widely used to be meme who refuses to wear a mask or disagrees with physical distancing.

Survey It found that 69 percent of British respondents aged 40 to 54 would not name their child Karen because they felt it had a negative connotation.
Respondents also admitted to being worried when they had to talk to someone with this name.
As many as 6 percent of respondents do not want to date someone named Karen on a dating app.
Meanwhile, 18 percent of respondents felt uncomfortable if their mother-in-law had this name.

However, 45 percent of respondents stated that they knew someone by the name of Karen.
About 14 percent of other respondents said that anyone named Karen should be treated fairly.
Earlier this year, a white woman in New York was nicknamed Karen after accusing someone black man bird watching “threatens his life”.
Likewise, the couple in St. Louis, United States of America ( AS) were labeled “Karen” and “Ken” after pointing guns at protesters Black Lives Matter outside their home.
