Kansas City Chiefs | What’s going on ?

Things are not going quite as expected in Kansas City. The Chiefs who have already suffered four losses even before Halloween? No one could have predicted such a scenario.

What is happening with the double champions of the American? The Chiefs’ struggles begin with Patrick Mahomes, and he knows it better than anyone. The quarterback admitted the obvious when he said he needed to play better a few days ago.

Indeed. Mahomes is not performing at all like the highest paid player on the league should. He’s already thrown nine interceptions, the league’s worst performance in this regard, tied with rookie Zach Wilson of the laughable New York Jets. Mahomes has suffered at least one interception in each of his last six games. He had totaled 11 interceptions in 29 season games in 2019 and 2020… How to explain that he threw nine in seven games?

Mahomes wants to do too much and pushes the mark too often. The opposing defenses have adjusted to the Chiefs’ attack and make sure first and foremost not to allow explosive plays by almost always keeping two safety runs in the deep areas.

The quarterback of the Chiefs must therefore learn to be satisfied with more modest gains and to orchestrate methodical series, as do Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, in particular. A little less home runs and a little more singles and doubles.

LDT reservist

Many of you are wondering what is going on with Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. The situation has not changed since the start of the season. He is currently the reservist at the right guard post and has yet to play since the start of the regular season.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has still not played since the start of the season.

It is currently the rookie Trey Smith who occupies the former position of the Quebecer. Smith was a sixth-round pick in April, but it is rumored that he would have been selected much earlier if it had not been for fears about his health. In 2018, while Smith was playing at the University of Tennessee, blood clots were found in his lungs.

We can’t hold the offensive line responsible for the Chiefs’ failures. Smith and center Creed Humphrey, another rookie, appear to be living up to the Chiefs’ expectations, and the acquisitions of veterans Joe Thuney and Orlando Brown Jr. have had a stabilizing effect on the quintet. Mahomes was the victim of 14 sacks in 7 games, an acceptable ratio, considering the fiasco that the line game was in the middle of the Super Bowl. The Chiefs are also averaging 5 yards per carry.

Trade-in for Melvin Ingram?

The Chiefs’ attack should take place. There are too many talents for it not to be so. But that’s a whole different story on the other side of the ball.

Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has done little miracles with his unit over the past few years, but nothing is working for the Chiefs’ defense anymore. She is 27e for points awarded (average of 29 per game) and 28e for yards (404.6 per game).

We have written it several times: with the exception of tackle Chris Jones and safety half Tyrann Mathieu, there are no impact players in the defense of the Chiefs. The presence of another good quarterback hunter, however, could serve to camouflage loopholes.

Linebacker Melvin Ingram (8) is unhappy with his playing time with the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.

NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala reported that the Chiefs recently made an offer to the Pittsburgh Steelers to get veteran Melvin Ingram. Andy Reid and his team know Ingram very well, having played his first nine seasons in the same division as them as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers. Ingram is dissatisfied with his playing time in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers would rather trade him to a National Conference team.

Whether it’s Ingram or someone else, the Chiefs will surely get their hands on a player or players before the trade deadline, which is 4 p.m. Tuesday. Because right now, their chances of returning to the Super Bowl don’t seem much better than those of missing the playoffs.

Big tests on the horizon

We will have the opportunity to see the Chiefs at work on Monday night as they host the New York Giants at Arrowhead Stadium. The Mahomes and company will certainly want to deliver a convincing performance, just to show the rest of the league that they are still part of the scene.

A win would also push them back to the .500 mark. The Chiefs will then play three straight games against teams that are currently 17-4 combined.

Patrick Mahomes (15) and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates have already suffered four losses early in the season.

This streak will begin with the first matchup between Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers on November 7 in Kansas City. The Chiefs will then play in Las Vegas against their nemesis, the Raiders, on Monday, November 15, followed by a visit from Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys on November 21.

It is suspected that the Packers, Raiders and Cowboys will find a way to score quite a few points in these games, so it would be a good thing for the Chiefs if Mahomes regains his glory by then. Otherwise, it could seriously get tough for the men in red.

Especially since the Chiefs no longer have the chance to share their division with three mediocre teams. The Raiders and Chargers should even give them a hard time until January this time around.
