The Kaliningrad authorities are hoping for an early resumption of rail service, interrupted due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus, the press service of the regional government told reporters.
“This is unpleasant news for residents of the Kaliningrad region,” the regional government said. “We hope that in the near future at least the minimum number of trains per week will be returned to enable residents who should not use air transport for medical reasons to leave the region if necessary and return home.”
“Russian Railways” suspended communication with Belarus and the Kaliningrad region. The decision was made in connection with a letter from the head of the department of Rospotrebnadzor, the chief state sanitary doctor for railway transport, Yuri Kaskov, as well as due to restrictive measures in connection with the outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19.
