Kaaba wrapped in new cloth during Hajj, pilgrimage again very limited

On the second day of the Hajj, the most important Muslim pilgrimage, the so-called kiswa was replaced at the Kaaba in Mecca. According to tradition, the large black cloth over the Islamic shrine is renewed before the start of the Feast of Sacrifice.

The Kaaba is the most important shrine in Islam. It is a cubic building in the courtyard of Masjid al-Haram, also known as the Great Mosque of Mecca. The Kaaba is covered with a black cloth, the kiswa, which is changed every year during the Hajj.

According to the Saudi state news agency 670 kilos of silk were used for the new kiswa. 120 kilos of gold and 100 kilos of silver wire were also processed. About two hundred craftsmen worked on it.
