Justice in Lebanon wants to hear Carlos Ghosn

Justice in Lebanon wants to summon ousted car magnate Carlos Ghosn to hear him after a request for arrest by Interpol. The investigation continued Friday in Japan and Turkey on the mysterious circumstances of his incredible flight.

In this case having taken an international scale, the last images of video surveillance in Tokyo revealed that the ex-boss of Renault-Nissan, arrived Monday in Lebanon, had left alone his Japanese residence, where he was assigned.

In Turkey, the private airline MNG Jet has announced that it has filed a complaint for the “illegal” use of two of its aircraft. These allowed the 65-year-old businessman to reach Beirut via Istanbul.

No extradition agreement

Holder of Lebanese, French and Brazilian passports, Mr. Ghosn is being prosecuted in Japan for financial embezzlement. His flight caused astonishment: he was under house arrest in Tokyo under very strict conditions and was prohibited from leaving the country pending his trial.

Lebanon having received a red notice from Interpol, the businessman could be heard next week by the Lebanese public prosecutor’s office, as the procedure requires, said a judicial source. “The justice system is forced to hear it. But it can decide to arrest him or leave him at large,” said the source.

The businessman could be summoned Tuesday or Wednesday. Lebanese authorities announced that Carlos Ghosn had entered the country “legally” and recalled that there was no extradition agreement with Japan.

Jets used “illegally”

In Tokyo, images recorded on December 29 at around 12:00 p.m. by a camera placed near the entrance to Mr. Ghosn’s home did not reveal any suspicious presence by his side at the time, sources close to the author said. survey cited by the NHK public channel. These are the latest images in Japan of the businessman.

Japanese police suspect he may have joined someone else to fly, according to NHK. Ghosn is suspected of having first boarded a private jet at Kansai International Airport, near Osaka (west of Japan) on the evening of December 29, bound for Istanbul.

After a brief stopover, Mr. Ghosn took another private jet to Beirut. The company MNG Jet announced to have “filed a complaint about the illegal use of its private aviation services in connection with the flight of Carlos Ghosn”.

According to her, two private jets were rented in December to two customers. “These two locations were apparently unrelated. The name of Mr. Ghosn did not appear in the documents of either of the two flights.”

Arrests in Turkey

The company blames one of its employees who was arrested by the Turkish police. She accuses him of having acted on her own initiative and of “falsifying documents”. Turkish authorities arrested seven people on Thursday, including four pilots, believed to have helped Ghosn.

Mr. Ghosn, who was the highest paid entrepreneur in Japan, was arrested there at the end of 2018. He is the subject of four charges in that country: two for deferred income not declared to the stock exchange authorities by Nissan (which is also being prosecuted on this aspect), and two others for aggravated breach of trust.
