Just the flu? | The Journal of Montreal

When someone says COVID-19 is no worse than the flu, I know that person has never had it.

I’m not talking about the seasonal cold that turns into sinusitis. The one who endures with a big blanket, an old movie, Benylin day, hi-ha! I’m talking about influenza, the virus that makes you feel like you’re a hundred years old.

Near death

I had H1N1 in 2009. Five days of cradling me sweating while shivering, constantly dehydrated. You look at the glass of water on the table. It takes ten minutes to make up your mind because you know that stretching your arm will be agony. When you finally move, you take your sip and feel like you’re swallowing knives.

I have never felt this close to death and I was really happy that I didn’t have to take care of a child. I were not able to.

If you tell me that the experience of COVID-19 only gets vaguely close to it, I can assure you that I will organize myself not to catch it and, most importantly, not to transmit it.

Strong and smart

Experts are puzzled by SARS-CoV-2. A virus whose consequences can range from the absence of symptoms to death, including long-term consequences, even in healthy people, without knowing why.

Also, someone nailed to a couch with the flu will not infect many people. An asymptomatic carrier of COVID-19 who goes about his business sees many more people in a day.

This is one of the reasons why COVID-19 circulates better than influenza. As proof, the latter has disappeared for the moment while the coronavirus still appears here and there. He’s made strong and he’s smart.

If you still think COVID-19 is no worse than the flu, too bad for you. If you’re lucky, you’ll be ripping it off for a week. It would be nice, however, to have the consideration of not passing it on to others.
