The rider from Allier Julian Alaphilippe won this Thursday March 11 the second Tirreno-Adriatico stage run between Camaiore and Chiusdino, 202 kilometers long. The world champion beat the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel, the Belgian Wout Van Aert and the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar in an uphill finish. The Frenchman had already won two stages of the Italian race in 2019.

Bourbonnais is now second in the general classification, behind Wout Van Aert who keeps the leader’s jersey. “I knew Joao was going to be sprinting hard in the last mile so I focused on what was going on behind me. At the end, I could see that everyone was reaching their limit so when I saw Joao, I went all out. This victory makes me really happy. It’s always a special feeling, you can never be sure of winning.
