The Judiciary Police (PJ) reported today that an operation was launched last weekend aimed at the “dismantling of a relevant circuit” of drug supply to Madeira.
Entitled ‘Operation Pico Ruivo’, it took place after a four-month investigation, the PJ said in a statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday morning.
As part of the operation, a 55-year-old woman, resident in the Greater Lisbon region, was arrested in flagrante delicto, in possession of about 10 kilos of heroin, moments after having landed at Madeira Airport.
According to the PJ, “this is the largest seizure of heroin recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with the amount seized being likely to correspond to approximately 120,000 individual doses”.
The detainee was present to the competent judicial authorities for questioning and enforcement of a coercive measure, and the preventive detention coercion measure was applied.
Investigations are still under the responsibility of the Judiciary Police.
