Infant Pilar, sister of ex-King Juan Carlos of Spain, had been suffering from colon cancer for some time. Now she died at the age of 83.

On January 5, Infanta Pilar († 83) was admitted to the “Ruber International” hospital. However, the condition of the princess deteriorated steadily and she died on Wednesday (January 8th) in the presence of her family.
Infanta Pilar was one of the sisters of Spain Ex-King Juan Carlos (82) and is thus the aunt of the incumbent monarch Felipe (51). Juan Carlos had another brother, Alfons, who died in 1956 at the age of 14. He also has another sister, Infanta Margarita (80).
Juan Carlos and wife Sofia (81) visited Pilar a few hours before her death. In the morning, her son Juan Gómez Acebo said according to “hola.com”: “She is very sick, poor woman.” He and his four siblings must now live on without their mother. Her father Count Luis Gómez Acebo died in 1991.
Infanta Pilar: long suffering and yet she never lost her sense of humor
In February 2019, the Infanta had to be transferred from Mallorca to Madrid in an emergency. She had suffered an intestinal obstruction and had to undergo an operation. After her release, she joked, according to “hola.com”, that she was “heavenly”. In November, the 83-year-old had said that she was fine and she was talking about Crown Princess Leonor (14) in Girona.
At Christmas she gathered the family around her and she stayed by her side until the end.
The royal family has not yet commented on Pilar’s death.
