J.R. Smith, two-time NBA champion, just got named A&T State University Athlete of the Year from North Carolina. The former teammate of LeBron James in the Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers celebrated with his followers through social networks the recognition of the educational institution, which also highlighted his excellent academic resume (4.0 GPA en EE.UU).
The former American league player, 36, he enrolled in college in 2021 after hanging up his sneakers. He currently plays for the golf team of the Greensboro schoolwhere he is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies.
“I was terrified to go back to class… Getting over the fear of feeling vulnerable and being open to my disability have empowered me. A power that no one will take away from me!” Smith commented on his experience in college.
The news went around the NBA tweeting universe, and LeBron wanted to congratulate his former teammate: “I’m proud of you, kid! I love you brother.”
