Journal Frankfurt News – Festival features venues throughout the city

The “Politik im Freie Theater” festival is coming to Frankfurt for the first time this year. The focus of the various productions, performances, readings, lectures and exhibitions is the topic of power.

From 29 September to 8 October, the “Politik im Freie Theater” festival initiated by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) will take place in Frankfurt. The series of events is now entering its eleventh round and this year deals with the topic of “power”. At various exhibitions, discussions, films, readings, performances or guided tours, lectures and workshops, visitors can deal with current power relations and distribution issues or possibilities of actively helping to shape scope for action.

Over 100 events are to be held at various locations in the city, including the Senckenberg Museum, the Gallus Theater, the Jewish Museum, the Anne Frank educational center, the Frankfurt LAB and many more. In addition to productions from the free German-speaking theater scene, a regional focus will be set for the first time in the history of the festival. Invited groups from the Rhine-Main area show numerous formats: from intergenerational theater by TheaterGrueneSosse to an online performance by andpartnersincrime, dance by Backstein Kollektiv, a tech manifesto by Swoosh Lieu to a performative tour between the bank towers of Frankfurt by PARA.

In addition to the various events of the regional organizers, the production “SystemFailed” by the Leipzig group ArtesMobile, which deals with future-shaping technologies with the help of artificial intelligence, will also be shown. In the documentary material performance “Kaffee und Zucker?” the Berlin artist Laia RiCa deals with colonial continuities. In addition, the productions “She She Pop” or “Theater HORA” will be shown in cooperation with Henrike Iglesias and many other events will take place.

The Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) performs in different cities in the state every three years with the “Politics in the Free Theater” festival. In the past, this included stations such as Bremen, Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Cologne and Freiburg. In addition to the bpb, this year’s festival is co-organized by the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Mousonturm and the Festival AG, consisting of NAXOS and the two associations ID_Frankfurt and laPROF Hessen.

Tickets are available at Online store of the festival as well as online or at the box office of the Theater in Frankfurt and des Mousonturm. The box offices of the other venues open one hour before the start of the performance. There is also an overview of the supporting program on the Website from Festivals.
