– I have no words, Josefine said when she and Oskar were awarded the MGPjr trophy.

Followed by a sobbing thank you, Josefine hopes the duo has infected someone with their song.

Josefine and Oskar were inspired by the corona when they wrote the song, according to NRK.

Lovet show

Almost 900 entries were submitted before this year’s edition, and 12 young finalists fought on Saturday to take home the victory. This year, as last year, it was youtuber Victor Sotberg and Supernytt presenter Selma Ibrahim who led the final. Ahead of the final, they promised a show we have never seen before.

– It’s a little nervous. We will do something that has never been done before. In addition, we will have eight stages this year, one for each artist, Sotberg told NRK.

– It will be so much fun, and there are so many good artists this year, Ibrahim said.

According to project manager Eva Rutgerson Bie, many of this year’s submitted contributions are about both the finalists’ everyday lives and what is important to them.

– This year, as last year, many songs were submitted about mental health and being good enough. It is also about being able to spread joy and hope when we are in the middle of a pandemic, says Rutgerson Bie.

Characterized by corona

Last year’s MGPjr final was postponed from May to August due to the corona pandemic. This year’s broadcast has also been characterized by infection control.

– Since the song audition in January, we have had infection control plans for each step in production. Both key personnel, finalists and dancers are quickly tested every morning, and a lot of time has been spent conducting a safe show at all stages, says Rutgerson Bie.

Although the final was conducted without the audience for the second year in a row, the audience from several places in the country was on video.

This year’s theme

The theme for this year’s MGPjr is “Echo Chamber”, which is also the name of this year’s joint song. Although the corona pandemic also affects this year’s broadcast, the finalists have met at a work meeting to get to know each other better and record the song, writes NRK.

The “echo chamber” theme is about not letting others define who you are, and trusting your own opinions.

– It is as the presenters say in the broadcast, sometimes it can be nice to be a group that agrees on something, but it is always important to hear all sides of an issue before making up an opinion, says project manager, Eva Rutgerson Bie.
