Endowed with a sweet and hypnotizing voice, José James gratified its public with a new opus this Friday, January 20, an album entitled On & On. In a soulful universe tinged with jazz at times and touches of pop, the singer reveals the influence of the artists who inspire him such as Bill Withers or Marvin Gaye.
A true musical chameleon, the singer knows how to put his deep voice at the service of a deep blues as well as his talents as a poet in intense hip-hop pieces. very influenced by John Coltrane et Billie Holiday, it is a jazz of the purest that the artist offers who seduces his audience at each of his passages on stage. Through this new opus, the artist pays tribute to the singer and composer Erykah Badu picking up his pieces.
Wishing to highlight the talents of the artist as a lyricist, Joseph James is full of praise for Badu :
It’s simple: vocal jazz has always had a vocation to interpret the best standards of its time. For my generation, Erykah Badu has been one of the most innovative and incisive lyricists. In retrospect, his work is revolutionary from a social, musical and artistic point of view.
Thanks to his particularly smooth and intense voice, the American singer gives a very intimate dimension and a most striking slowness to each of his songs. His incredible vocal mastery will seduce you for sure! Check out some excerpts from the album below. On & On.
The singer will present his new opus during a European tour which will settle down at New Morningat Paris, Thursday, March 2. Tickets are already available ici.
