men’s singles player, Jonatan Christie, became the opening and closing of Indonesia’s progress in winning Thomas Cup 2020 (Thomas Cup 2021).
Indonesia’s match in the Thomas Cup this time opened with a duel against Algeria. In the match which took place on Saturday (9/10) evening local time, the Red and White team placed Jonathan as the first single.
Jonathan started the match with a 21-8 and 21-8 victory. Indonesia then bagged a perfect victory in the match against Algeria.
After the match, Jonathan always appeared in every Indonesian match. The 24-year-old player had experienced defeat when he met a young Thai player, Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Jonatan then appeared again and presented wins against Wang Tzu Wei (Taiwan), Ng Tze Yong (Malaysia), and Anders Antonsen (Denmark).
Victory over Tze Yong ensured Indonesia’s move to the semifinals. While the points against Antonsen confirmed Indonesia’s superiority over Denmark.
Jonathan again played an important role in the final match. The 2018 Asian Games champion again appeared as the second single to play in the third party.
After Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto won, Jonathan became the winner.
Had an easy win over Li Shi Feng in the first game, Jonathan failed to secure the second game. Jonathan was only able to secure Indonesia’s 14th title in the Thomas Cup in the third game.
