Jolie’s collection,’Churchill’s Landscape Painting’, won a bid for 13 billion won

Recorded the highest price among paintings left by Churchill
Drawn during World War II and presented to Roosevelt

-Actor Angelina Jolie (46) received a gift from her ex-husband Brad Pitt (58) and was in possession of the landscape painting of the former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (1874-1965) for 10 years and won the highest price among paintings left by Churchill. This painting was drawn by Churchill during World War II and presented to the then-American President Franklin Roosevelt. The work, which appeared at the Christie London auction on the 1st (local time), was sold for $11.5 million (about 13 billion won, including fees). Titled’Tower of Koutoubia Mosque’ (1939-1945, photograph), this work captures the scene of the hot sun in Marrakech, Morocco. The warm colors created by intense sunlight and long shadows are impressive. An official from Christie London explained, “Churchill, who first visited Morocco in 1935, fell in love with the charm of the sun.”

This painting is the only work that Churchill painted during World War II. Shortly after the meeting in Casablanca, Morocco in January 1943, Churchill proposes to President Roosevelt to see the sunset near Marrakech. To commemorate the memories of being together for a while, Churchill painted and presented this picture the next day. According to CNN, Jolie received this work from her ex-husband Pete in 2011. Churchill, who started painting in her 40s, left over 500 works.
