The threat of recession
President Jokowi deserves to be angry. Because the condition of the national economy continues to experience contraction and threatened recession.
Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) said that 71 percent of Indonesian people considered that the economic condition of households had worsened due to the corona virus. While as many as 76 percent of respondents said their household income dropped due to a pandemic.
The data is the result of a survey conducted by the SMRC on 18-20 June 2020.
Indonesia’s economic growth in the first quarter (Q1) 2020 was only 2.97 percent. That figure is far from the first quarter target which is expected to reach around 4.5-4.6 percent.
This is predicted due to decreased consumption and purchasing power due to the pandemic. Application work from home (WFH) and physical distancing also blamed as one of the causes of this low economic growth.
