President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will receive a house as a gift from the state after retirement. It was revealed that Jokowi he had refused the gift house.
The house is located in Colomadu area, Karang Anyar, Central Java. Of note, Colomadu borders Boyolali Regency, Sukoharjo Regency and Surakarta City or Solo City. Jokowi himself is from Solo and was the mayor of Solo.
Deputy for Protocol, President’s Press and Media Secretariat Bey Machmudin explained the legal basis for the purchase of houses for the former president and former vice president. Bey said the former president and former vice president are only entitled to one home from the state even if they have served more than one term.
“According to Law No. 7 of 1978, the State has in fact made a house available to the former President and former Vice President. Presidential Regulation No. 52 of 2014 establishes that the former President and/or former Vice President they are only eligible to receive a home once, including serving more than one term,” Bey said.
Bey stressed that the president’s house is not just for Jokowi. But also for former presidents and vice presidents.
“So once again, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, the provision of residency has been provided not only to Pak Jokowi, but also to all former presidents and former vice presidents,” Bey said.
Jokowi had refused
Bey said the process of acquiring a home for Jokowi began in 2017. However, Bey said, Jokowi at the time refused to have the state build a home.
“In the provision of a house in Pak Jokowi, actually according to the provisions, the house can be obtained after completing the first term of the President of the Republic of Indonesia (2014-2019) and the planning is done 3 years before the term ends, precisely in 2017. The construction can be done 2 years before the expiry of the mandate, i.e. in 2018, but Pak Jokowi refused,” he said.
