Jokowi Reminds Alert Second Wave, Epidemiologist: The First Wave Is Not Over … Page all

KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo ( Jokowi) said, Indonesia must be aware of the coming the second wave of corona virus a new type of cause of Covid-19.

This was conveyed by Jokowi when opening a limited meeting related to the posture of the State Budget (APBN) 2021, at the Bogor Palace, Tuesday (07/28/2020).

“We still have to be vigilant about our possibilities and our anticipation of risks second wave, second wave“And still the global economic uncertainty will continue in 2021,” Jokowi said.

Responding to Jokowi’s statement, epidemiologist at the University of Indonesia Pandu Riono assessed that it was not yet time to remind the second wave.

The reason is that currently Indonesia has not yet succeeded in overcoming the first wave of the corona virus.

“Not exactly. The peak of the first wave was not seen yet,” Pandu said when contacted Kompas.com, Tuesday (7/28/2020).

According to Pandu, Jokowi’s statement was as impressive as Indonesia had succeeded in overcoming the first wave. In fact, he considered, the first wave had not yet passed.

The implications of the statement, he said, could be counterproductive in handling pandemic Covid-19 because people are complacent and relax their vigilance.

“So the public receives unclear information. It should invite the public to continue to be vigilant, ‘We have to be vigilant, so many cases, be vigilant, may come out but wear a mask, be vigilant!“That’s how it should be,” said Pandu.

He provided input that the President should lead directly in handling the corona virus pandemic, and not form a new committee or task force.

If the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic is as it is now, he is worried that the addition of cases will continue until the end of the year.

“Suddenly just focus on the eight provinces of the red zone. Don’t like that. All regions of Indonesia should be red, “said Pandu.

The difference in the number of cases from one region to another is judged by the number testing limited.

If testing done massively and numerically positivity rate low, then the situation can be said to be safer.

According to him, there was a misunderstanding in understanding the status of a pandemic. Supposedly, the indicator seen is positivity rate, not the number of cases.

“The misunderstanding is a huge risk. It means that we are easily complacent, except maybe the intention is to make the community complacent. Then the so-called must be prepared for the second wave is ready what are you doing? “said Pandu.

Pandu criticized, the paradigm of handling the corona virus pandemic in Indonesia is more heavy on economic interests.

This can be seen from the formation of the Covid-19 Handling Committee and the National Economic Recovery, which is largely overseen by the ministers of economics.
