President Joko Widodo open the option of expanding the Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) Emergency to areas outside Java and Bali.
Chairman of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPC-PEN) Airlangga Hartarto said this option could be taken if facilities outside Java-Bali were overwhelmed by the surge in Covid-19 cases.
“The President’s directive, if the area’s supporting facilities are increasingly limited or reduced, of course according to the mechanism and criteria that we will certainly increase from strict to emergency,” said Airlangga at an online press conference, Wednesday (7/7).
Airlangga said that currently the government is still focusing on implementing Emergency PPKM in Java and Bali. Meanwhile, micro PPKM was tightened for areas other than Java and Bali.
The chairman of the Golkar Party said that micro PPKM was tightened in 43 regencies/cities in 20 provinces. He said the central government was monitoring every second of developments in these areas.
“We will monitor daily. From this daily monitor, we will see,” he said.
Airlangga said he had summoned 10 governors to discuss tightening restrictions during Micro PPKM. The central government will also summon another 17 governors today.
“For strict monitoring. With this tight monitor, we are preparing the next step,” he said.
Previously, the government held an Emergency PPKM for 3-20 July. This restriction applies to 122 districts/cities in Java and Bali.
On July 6-20, the government also held a tightened micro PPKM. This restriction applies to 43 districts/cities in 20 provinces.
