Jakarta –
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued a new Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on the Ministry of Defense (Ministry of Defense). One of the provisions in the new Presidential Regulation relates to the special staff of the Minister of Defense that a maximum of five people can be appointed.
The provisions are contained in Article 53 Presidential Decree Number 94 of 2022 concerning the Ministry of Defense, a copy of which was seen by detik.com, Wednesday (22/6/2022). The special staff is responsible to the Minister of Defense.
Article 53
(1) Within the Ministry of Defense, a maximum of 5 (five) Special Staff of the Minister can be appointed.
(2) The Special Staff of the Minister is responsible to the Minister
The provisions of Article 53 of Perpres 94/2022 are different from the previous provisions in Perpres 58/2015. In the previous Presidential Decree, a maximum of three special staff could be appointed.

Article 52
(1) Within the Ministry of Defense, a maximum of 3 (three) Special Staff of the Minister can be appointed.
(2) The Special Staff of the Minister is responsible to the Minister.
Meanwhile, the duties of the special staff of the Minister of Defense are regulated in Articles 54 and 55 of Presidential Regulation 94/2022. Here’s more:
Article 54
The Special Staff of the Minister has the task of providing advice and considerations to the Minister according to the assignment of the Minister and is not a task for the organizational elements of the Ministry of Defense.
Article 55
(1) The Special Staff of the Minister in carrying out his duties shall apply the principles of good coordination, integration and synchronization with organizational units within the Ministry of Defense.
(2) The work of the Minister’s Special Staff is regulated by the Secretary General.
