The cinema year 2019 was shaken up by the dark DC film Joker. The blockbuster by Hangover director Todd Phillips sparked controversial discussions, including his portrayal of violence. Still, the Batman villain’s Origin story ended with grossing over $ 1 billion worldwide most successful feature film with an R rating any times. Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for best leading actor.
Since this milestone, things have gradually calmed down around Joker, even if a Joker sequel was wrongly announced in 2019. The DC Universe has 2021 with the Snyder cut from Justice League directly the next big event and Phillips’ film seemed to stand alone. Until now.
Joker director has signed deal for new part of the franchise
There are now new indications that Joker 2 could very well be in the planning stage. According to a report by the Hollywood Reporter Todd Phillips is said to have made a deal through which he as a co-author on another Joker part will write down.
In the video we choose the best Joker star:
That’s why HE is the best JOKER! | Heath Ledger Vs Joaquin Phoenix
There is no more information than this short sentence. There is another “joker part” and not explicitly named Joker 2 remains open how much a new film in this franchise has to do with the first part. Still, a sequel to the 2019 hit either way isn’t a good idea.
As an ambivalent DC exceptional film, Joker is ideal for itself
One of the greatest success factors of Todd Phillips’ film was undoubtedly that Joker moved between a realistic, grounded thriller-drama and comic roots that never protruded into the Batman universe. At its core, Joker is above all the story of a mentally ill person who so marginalized and abused by society will turn him into a monster.
Even though it makes the film a classic Origin story, which in this case is about the making of the most iconic Batman villain, Joker unfolds rather than extremely cryptic character study of a troubled soul. Todd Phillips’ work can hardly be compared with the usual films from the superhero genre of the last few years by Marvel or DC.
