Joint statement by APEC leaders “Condemns the Russian invasion” adopted

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders adopted a joint statement condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In the joint statement announced today at the close of the 29th summit (19), the leaders said: “This year we have witnessed the negative impact of the war in Ukraine on the world economy”.

He also recalled the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Most member states strongly condemn the war in Ukraine, which not only causes human suffering, but also presents significant risks to the global economy, including slowing growth, rising prices, breaking supply shortages, rising energy and food insecurity and heightened risks to financial stability Exacerbate vulnerabilities.

However, the leaders also included in the joint statement that “there were also different views on this situation and on the issue of sanctions”.

“We recognize that APEC is not a forum for addressing security issues, but we recognize that security issues can have significant consequences for the global economy,” he added.

APEC is an organization launched in 1989 with the goal of economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

Its member countries are 21 countries, including the United States, Korea, Japan, China and Russia.

The United States, which will serve as the country’s president for next year, has announced San Francisco as the venue for the summit.
