Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea: North Korea launches four short-range ballistic missiles

North Korea launched four short-range ballistic missiles into the West Sea on the 5th time of the Korean peninsula, the South Korean Joint Chief of Staff said.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, from 11:32 am to 11:59 am the same day, North Korea detected four short-range ballistic missiles launched from the Dongrim area in North Pyongan province in the West Sea.

The missile had a flight range of 130 km, an altitude of about 20 km and a speed of about Mach 5.

The South Korean military said it was closely monitoring North Korea’s movements by strengthening its surveillance position.

Dongrim, where North Korea has launched a ballistic missile, is located about 20 km from Dandong, China.

It is unusual for North Korea to launch a ballistic missile into the West Sea rather than the East Sea, and also from the border between North Korea and China.

Recently, North Korea has launched several ballistic missiles, raising the level of provocations.

Previously, on the 3rd, it launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) presumably of the Hwasong-17 type, and on the 2nd, the day before, for the first time since the division of the two Koreas, it launched a ballistic missile near the territorial waters of the Korea south of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the East Sea.
