Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson plans to start human clinical studies of a coronavirus vaccine in September 2020, and does not rule out that tests be conducted globally to accelerate its manufacture.
“We are improving manufacturing and will start production by the end of the year, with the goal of delivering 1 billion vaccines next year,” Johnson & Johnson chief scientist Paul Stoffels told ABC.
According to Stoffels, “We will have some vaccines available this year, but it will be up to authorities, the FDA and others to decide whether they can be used before efficacy data is available.”
This is coordinated work with the Advanced Biomedical Research and Development Authority (BARDA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services.
