In the upcoming film “Jeanne Du Barry” Johnny Depp is on the cast, and will play the French King Louis XV, reports Screen Daily.
The film will be released in Cannes later this month. The plot of the film is set in France and is about the woman Jeanne Bècu who was born into poverty, but rose in the ranks until King Louis XV became her lover.
It will be Depp’s first film since “Minamata” which came out in 2019, and after this Depp has described himself as a victim of “Cancel culture”, writes Deadline.
Depp is now in an intense legal drama against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp has sued Heard for defamation after the latter wrote a post in Washington Post in 2018, where she wrote, among other things:
“Two years ago, I became a public symbol of domestic abuse, and I felt the power of our culture’s anger toward women,” Heard wrote.
Depp has denied the accusations that he allegedly abused his wife, and has in turn accused Heard of, among other things, hitting him in the face during a flight, and that she allegedly threw several bottles of vodka at him, writes Sky News.
After Heard’s accusations were published, the British tabloid newspaper The Sun described Depp as a wife abuser. Depp sued The Sun, but lost both.
In the wake of losing one of the lawsuits, the film company Warner Bros. Depp about withdrawing from the movie “Fantastic Beasts 3”. In the two previous films, Depp had the role of the wizard Gellert Grindelwald.
Nor is it the only film role to have been lost to Depp.

But after Heard published the post in the Washington Post, Disney chose to drop Depp from the role. According to Whigham, it should have been impossible for Depp to get film roles after Heard’s post was published.
