Johannes Samuelsson’s Comeback Victory in the Östersund Sprint Race

Nawrath, who won the sprint yesterday, was in the lead all the way until the last shot. Samuelsson slipped a little behind after two misses in the first two lying shots, but got back on track.

In the third shoot, Samuelsson shot full and came out second behind Nawrath, who missed a shot in the third. Thus, the distance between the two was only 17 seconds.

Samuelsson continued to gain time on the German, so before the fourth shot there was only a few seconds that separated. They both shot evenly with each bar, and also barred the competitors closest behind, so Samuelsson took the lead on the final lap.

There was never any talk of the matter, Samuelsson increased the distance with each stroke and won in Östersund, five seconds ahead of Nawrath. Samuelsson’s first individual podium of the World Cup season.

– It is absolutely incredible. He said it himself before the race: He is the strongest, he is the best and favorite to win today, says SVT’s expert Björn Ferry.

“Nawrath froze”

Samuelsson himself is very satisfied with the victory at home.

– I miss three shots but I’m on top in the series, especially in standing, I’m very happy with that. I think Nawrath froze in the last stand and then I made up the seconds I needed, he says to SVT Sport.

Martin Ponsiluoma started eleventh but picked up several places for a sixth place after two failures.
