Johan Storåkers received more than SEK 600,000 without the board’s knowledge

During his time as chairman, the chairman of the Swedish Athletics Association, Johan Storåkers, received more than SEK 600,000 “under the table”. Now SVT Sport reveals that Storåker for several years masked it with “confidential” on the surface.

Last week revealed SVT Sporten that the Gotland and Stockholm Athletics Association has chosen not to nominate Johan Storåkers for a new term as chairman of Swedish Athletics Association. The background to this is that last year it was discovered that Johan Storåkers received SEK 600,000 in compensation, despite the fact that the chairmanship is to be non-profit. The board also had no knowledge.

Now comes SVT Sport with new revelations. From 2015 onwards, Storåkers has stated “Confidential” as a basis for the invoices he has submitted to the Stockholm Athletics Association.

– The head of operations had a mandate to remunerate people without it being raised by the board, and also had the right to determine the fee level. And then it was the case that the level of fees would not be passed on, and that was the word choice itself. But in retrospect, I think it might have been expressed incorrectly, he says to SVT and continues:

– In retrospect, I have learned that it was wrong, and that it should have been more transparent and open. If there was a similar scenario in the future, I would have been much more transparent and open. I’ve learned a lesson for life.

“Post-construction”

The lawyer who is responsible for the investigation on behalf of the Stockholm Athletics Association does not believe the explanation.

“The explanation appears to be an ex post construction and leaves something to be desired,” the lawyer writes in the investigation.
