The municipality of Amsterdam and the Johan Cruijff Arena have agreed that four European Championship matches will be played in the Ajax stadium next year. Nothing seems to get in the way of the duels in the Netherlands.
Since the European Championship was postponed by a year in March, there has been some uncertainty about the games in Amsterdam, which is one of the twelve host cities. Different parties have to fit the duels back into their program.
“Since the decision to move Euro 2020 to 2021, we have been in constructive discussions with UEFA and all partners,” said Gijs de Jong, director for the games in Amsterdam, in a statement on Saturday.
“This is done from a positive attitude and the talks are on schedule. The municipality of Amsterdam has already promised that the four games can be played in Amsterdam in 2021.”

European Championship in less than twelve cities?
In principle, the European Championship will be held in Amsterdam, London, St. Petersburg, Munich, Rome, Baku, Dublin, Copenhagen, Bucharest, Budapest, Glasgow and Bilbao, with the Ajax stadium being the setting for three group matches and an eighth final.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin left in an interview with Friday beIN Sports know that three host cities still have some problems with the postponed games, although he said he is confident in a solution.
Ceferin said that it would not be ruled out to keep the European Championship in ten, nine or even eight countries if not every playing city gets the organization around. The European Championship will start on June 11 next year.
