-Joe Mazzulla will continue as coach of the Boston Celtics for the 2023-24 NBA season, despite the elimination of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Brad Stevens, president of sports operations for the club, said Mazzulla will return after leading the Celtics to 57 wins and second place in the Eastern Conference, behind only the Milwaukee Bucks.
“He is a great leader. He’s only going to get better at everything he can learn this year, because he’s constantly trying to learn and he’s responsible. Those leadership qualities are hard to find,” he stressed. “It’s hard to show all of that under the expectations and the microscope that he was under.”

In the playoffs, the Celtics first disposed of the Atlanta Hawks and then struggled to beat the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7.
Against the Heat, Boston lost the first three games, but rallied to force a seventh game at home. With Monday’s loss, the Celtics fell one step away from becoming the first team in history to come back from 3-0 down in a playoff series.
Mazzulla, 34, became the youngest head coach in the NBA when he took over Boston earlier this season, taking over from Ime Udoka, who was suspended for having an inappropriate relationship with a franchise employee.
