Joe Biden officially introduced the third gender “X” in passports

Americans will be able to choose to mark their gender with a hiccup in their April 11 passport applications, the US State Department said today as President Joe Biden’s government marks “Transsexual Visibility Day,” Reuters reported.

“From April 11, US citizens will have the option to mark their gender with a hiccup in the US passport application, and this option will be available for other types of documentation from next year,” said Secretary of State Anthony Blinkon.

The change is part of measures announced by the Biden government after some states took action against transgender people.

The changes were among several measures announced by the Biden administration to mark Transgender Visibility Day, a day after Republican governors of Oklahoma and Arizona signed bills banning transgender athletes from playing sports in schools.

“Once again, we condemn the proliferation of dangerous anti-transgender legislative attacks that have been introduced and adopted by national legislatures across the country,” the White House said in a statement on initiatives to remove barriers to transgender people.

These include facilitating travel, providing resources for transgender children and their families, improving access to federal services and benefits, and promoting gender reassignment in federal data.

The Ministry of Health has launched a new website that offers resources for transgender and LGBTQI + young people and their parents.

“Every American deserves the freedom to be himself. But too many transgender Americans still face systemic barriers, discrimination and acts of violence,” the White House said.
