Jodie Foster and Michael Bay compete from the theaters against ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’

Without eating or drinking it, we already have a new weekend on top that, as usual, brings under the arm a new selection of billboard premieres that will disembark in our rooms to try to revitalize a box office that cannot take off, regardless of the high quality of the titles on offer.

Thanks to the ComscoreMoviesSpain Twitter account we can take a look at the impact of the news from the weekend of March 12-14, which was once again chaired by ‘Raya and the last dragon’; the latest animated feature film branded by Disney that topped the Top 5 with a gross € 200,300 in its second weekend on the bill.

After her, the brand new nominee for the best film for the next installment of the Oscars, ‘Minari. Historia de mi familia ‘was placed in the second position in its debut, amassing some not inconsiderable 101.626€ taking into account the current situation.

The list with the five highest grossing films of the weekend is closed by ‘Small details’, with 68.128€ in its third week; ‘Relic’, which was made with 59.599€ during its launch; and ‘The Croods: A New Era’, which continues to attract audiences after twelve weeks, this time with 57.762€ collected.

The premieres of March 18 (and 19)

‘The Mauritanian’ (2021)

After a couple of changes in plans, the court drama ‘The Mauritanian’, directed by Kevin Macdonald, will hit our theaters this Friday, March 19, as the only delayed release of the weekend. In addition to his solvent approach to the subgenre and his powerful political discourse, there is no doubt that one of his claims is the interpretation of a Jodie Foster who came out triumphant at the last Golden Globes ceremony with the award for best supporting actress under the arm.

‘Inmune’ (‘Songbird’, 2020)

Those who want to enjoy a film directed by Michael Bay will have to wait until 2022, when the premiere of ‘Ambulance’ is expected. Meanwhile, we will have to settle for feature films in which he has participated as a producer, such as this ‘Immune’, directed by Adam Mason and that will transport us to the year 2024 to make us live a love story in the middle of the COVID23 pandemic.

‘The translators’ (‘Les traducteurs’, 2019)

Starring Lambert Wilson and Olga Kurylenko, this French psychological thriller directed by Régis Roinsard promises a high dose of intrigue and a handful of dramatic twists as it explores the leak of a global bestseller of which nine translators from nine different nationalities are suspected.

‘The mole agent’ (2020)

The first documentary of the week is proud to represent Spain – even if only as an international co-production – as a nominee for the prestigious Oscar Award. It is still too early to know if he will get the statuette or not, but what is certain is that this story of not so professional and retired spies has enough tenderness and charm to make us spend 90 magnificent minutes.

‘El informe Auschwitz’ (‘The Auschwitz Report’, 2020)

From Slovakia comes this drama set in the Holocaust that, adapting the book by Alfred Wetzler, tells the story of Freddy and Valter; two Slovak Jews who managed to escape from the Auwschwitz concentration camp in 1944 and return to their country, where they tried to open the eyes of their compatriots.

‘La Gomera’ (‘The Whistlers (La Gomera)’, 2019)

Halfway between thriller and black comedy, the Romanian production ‘La Gomera’ arrives in our cinemas after winning the award for best script at the 2019 edition of the Seville Festival. Mafia, hidden millions of dollars and communication through whistles in 97 minutes, to say the least, peculiar.

‘Dardara’ (2021)

Marina Lameiro writes and directs this documentary focused on the figure of Gorka Urbizu, composer, vocalist and guitarist of the band Berri Txarrak. Good music and good cinema especially attractive for fans of the Navarrese group.

‘Night Vision’ (2019)

From Chile, the director and screenwriter Carolina Moscoso closes the week’s premieres with this documentary that projects a hard and lucid look on a subject as delicate as sexual abuse and gender violence.

If this week’s premieres don’t catch your eye or you want to recover titles that have been on the bill for the longest time, remember that you can take a look at the movies on the bill from last week and the previous one.
