“Job Opening: Field Officer Needed for Remote Gough Island to Observe Unique Bird Species”

London: The British wildlife organization Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is in a rush to find suitable people to work on Gough Island, one of the most remote islands in the world. Gough Island, located in the South Atlantic Ocean, has no permanent residents. This British-held island is 1,500 miles from the African continent. Since there is no airport, it can only be reached by a seven-day boat trip from South Africa. At present, there are seven employees of the organization and 80 lakh birds. Two experienced members of staff are Lucy Dorman and Rebecca Goodwill. Lucy has previously worked in Antarctica. Rebecca was in Scotland for the organisation. Rebekah’s tenure ends this September and the new Field Officer position is being sought. Salary ranges from 25,000 to 27,000 pounds (Rs. 25,69,800 – 27,75,400). The main job is to observe the island’s sea bird species. Must be able to adapt to the climate and solitude of the island. Qualification is Science degree. or equivalent. Previous experience handling and observing birds and animals is required. The weather here is full of heavy rain, wind and cold. Because the inhabited area is miles away, the island’s crew eats frozen or processed food. There are also endangered birds on the island. Atlantic yellow-nosed albatross and Atlantic petrel are the main birds here.
