Jianglan Tunnel|Interdepartmental Exercise Simulating 5 Vehicle Collision to Cope with Large-Scale Traffic Accidents

Police and various government departments held a large-scale inter-departmental exercise to simulate a serious traffic accident in Jianglan Tunnel. (FB page “Hong Kong Police”)

Tseung Kwan O Lam Tin Tunnel (Jianglan Tunnel) and Cross Bay Link were opened to traffic on Sunday (11). More than 120 people from the police force, fire department and transportation department, etc. today (6th) held a large-scale inter-departmental exercise named “BLUEWELL”, simulating the collision of five vehicles in the Jianglan tunnel, which is about to open to traffic. More than 30 people were injured and some passengers were trapped in the train car. The rescue team arrived on the spot to evacuate the citizens, triage the injured and send them to the hospital for treatment. The purpose is to strengthen the response and coordination capabilities of the various departments in large-scale operations.

The police said it will continue to liaise closely with various stakeholders, conduct regular inter-departmental exercises and review existing contingency plans, so as to strengthen the communication, coordination and response capabilities of various stakeholders when it comes to trafficking on large-scale accidents and make timely preparations for possible accidents.
