Jeroen Dijsselbloem (PvdA) has been appointed mayor of Eindhoven. The Eindhoven native succeeds John Jorritsma (VVD), who did not want to extend his term after six years.

The former finance minister returns to his homeland, where he lived for most of his childhood. His father worked in Eindhoven in a secondary school, you know Brabant transmission.

Earlier, in a virtual meeting with the city council, he said he was “very excited” about his work in the country’s fifth city. “But I can’t wait to be part of the community that is Eindhoven again. I will dedicate my heart and soul to the city, my Eindhoven.”

He repeated words to that effect tonight. “I can’t wait. Let’s get to work,” Dijsselbloem said after the installation.

In his own words, the PvdA member considers his most important task to make people feel seen. “Good governance is not just about keeping things in order or implementing new plans. You also need to always take care of people and stand by them where needed.”
