Jermaine Jackson is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 1988. Rita Butler Barrett claims to have reported the attack the next day to Berry Gordy, founder of the label Motown Record and close collaborator of Jermaine Jackson who, according to her, “withheld and concealed the acts” to “prevent the disclosure of information (…) for the purpose of profit and preservation of the reputation” of the artist.
“Through the cover-up of this assault, Jermaine Jackson and his reputation remained intact, while I was forced to suffer in silence and shame for decades,” Rita Butler Barrett said in her complaint.
According to the complaint, the victim “suffered serious emotional, physical, and psychological harm, including humiliation, shame, guilt, and ongoing emotional distress” as a result of the assault.
For now, neither Jermaine Jackson, who made himself known thanks to the group Jackson 5 with his brother Michael Jacksonnor his lawyers, have reacted to these accusations.
