Aware of the need for resources and help to mitigate the effects of the earthquake in Puerto Rico, the resident commissioner, Jenniffer González Colón, coordinates the visit on Friday of the federal senator for Florida, Rick Scott, to the affected villages in the south of the island.
With the visit of Scott, the resident commissioner seeks to accelerate the help available to Puerto Rico and to manage the problem of the Costa Sur power plant as a priority.
González Colón had advanced that he would invite congressmen to, in the same way he did with Hurricane Maria, could see the havoc firsthand and help manage aid for the victims.
“I hope to travel to Puerto Rico to get an update on recovery efforts after the devastating earthquakes that have affected the island. As governor, I traveled to Puerto Rico regularly and did my best to help the island recover after the passage of Hurricane Maria. As a senator, I have promised to be the voice of Puerto Rico in the Senate, and I will continue to fight for our brothers and sisters on the island. I hope to continue working with Congresswoman Jenniffer González and Governor Wanda Vázquez to ensure that the island has all the resources it needs, ”said Senator Scott.
The commissioner, who is coordinating the visit, is scheduled to meet with the governor, Wanda Vázquez, heads of state and federal agencies working in the emergency, visit affected areas in the south, meeting with the respective mayors and inspecting damage in the Central South Coast.
Senator Rick Scott, who since he was governor of the state of Florida has been proactive in the Puerto Rico response and recovery processes related to Hurricane Maria, has expressed his commitment to the island in the recovery stage of these earthquakes.
The senator is a member of the committees of the National Security and Government Affairs Senate; Commerce, Science and Transportation; Budget, among others.
