Jehovah’s Witnesses sue the state to avoid blood transfusions – Society and Politics – News

As LETA learned from AT, on November 27, the Department of Administrative Cases will continue to process Maxim Orlenko’s application challenging the Ministry of Health’s decision not to issue his son with a form entitling him to receive state-funded planned health care in another EU country.

The Ministry of Health justified the refusal on the grounds that in the specific case there were no medical reasons why the applicant’s son could not receive the service in the territory of Latvia.

The medical service in question is provided in the country, but the applicant is a “Jehovah’s Witness” and did not consent to the necessary medical manipulation because it also involved a blood transfusion.

The Senate of the Supreme Court had previously suspended the proceedings in the case in order to apply to the Court of Justice of the European Union. Following the entry into force of the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Senate will continue the proceedings.
