Jeff Bezos sues Nasa for choosing Elon Musk . new chapter in feuding super-rich

JAKARTA – The feud between the super-rich, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk is now entering a new chapter. Recently, Jeff Bezos, through his aerospace company, Blue Origin, sued the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for preferring Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

It is known that some time ago NASA decided to work with SpaceX to smooth their mission back to the Moon called Project Artemis. Before deciding to choose SpaceX, NASA auditioned with three SpaceX companies, Blue Origin and Dynetics. It’s only recently that NASA decided the entire mission would be carried out by SpaceX.

It is this decision that Jeff Bezos says is inconsistent with the agreement. He reasoned that NASA indicated that it would ask two companies to be involved in the prestigious project, not just one company, namely SpaceX.

This is what makes Jeff Bezos disappointed and filed a lawsuit in court. In his lawsuit he said that Project Artemis should have involved two companies so that the mission could run well.

It’s just that NASA deliberately violated that and left the operations of Project Artemis completely on SpaceX. “We strongly believe that the outcome of this lawsuit can restore justice and promote fair competition while ensuring the successful implementation of the project,” Blue Origin wrote in its lawsuit, as quoted by the BBC.

Currently NASA has not responded to the lawsuit. It’s just that with the support of the government, Blue Origin’s lawsuit seems difficult to fulfill.

According to the BBC, Kathy Lueders, a spokesperson for NASA, admitted that initially NASA would ask two companies to be involved in the project. But that was before the United States government approved their proposal. In fact, the proposed operational funds of USD 3.3 billion or equivalent to Rp. 47.2 trillion were not fulfilled. Instead, the United States government only disbursed funds amounting to USD850 million or equivalent to Rp. 12.1 trillion.

As a result, with the funds cut by more than half, NASA could not help but choose only one operator.

NASA also reasoned that the choice of SpaceX was not without reason. Elon Musk’s space company has managed to send their rockets into space more than Dynetics and Blue Origin.
