Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored twice to allow the Islanders to beat the dangerous Boston Bruins 4-2 on Saturday night in New York.

It was no small task to put the brakes on Bruce Cassidy’s men, who had won their last five duels. Pageau approached this challenge personally, scoring the insurance goal shorthanded late in the game.
This very important net was preceded by the victory for Mathew Barzal, who beat Tuukka Rask on the power play.
Pageau was truly on a mission. He dominated all of the skaters in that game with seven shots, also scoring midway through the first period. On Pageau’s two goals, Leo Komarov collected assists. This is a good lift return for the Estonian, whose name had been waived the day before.
Jordan Eberle was the other goal scorer for the Islanders, who also counted on Semyon Varlamov’s 28-save performance.
For the Bruins, it was the first line that took charge of the offense, while Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand all had two points.
Lightning always first
In Sunrise, the Tampa Bay Lightning won a duel for the top of the Central Section against the Florida Panthers, which they defeated 6-1.
The Lightning took control of the game in the second period, scoring four goals. Tyler Johnson had two, his second and third of the season.
Ondrej Palat opened the ball for the visitors by hitting the target on the power play. Mathieu Joseph doubled his team’s lead about a minute later by scoring his fifth goal of the campaign. Alexander Volkov and Barclay Goodrow finished the job in the third period.
Only Frank Vatrano managed to beat Andrei Vasilevskiy in the middle of the third period. The Lightning goalie made a total of 33 saves.
At the other end of the ice, Sergei Bobrovsky gave up six times on 27 throws.
The two teams will face each other again on Monday.
